Bright Star Education
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, June 7
Dear friends This Monday we will start our new school, Bright Star Education!!! The schools aim is to give quality education for the disadvantaged. Following the highest standards, indian curriculum and western ideas all combined. We will start to educate all smaller HOH children (11).

Ranjana, one of our older girls will be the helper teacher in the class. In this way she will earn a salary and in the meantime pick up on her own English and Hindi. As you might remember, Ranjana never received any proper education at all.

We hope Ganesh will attend too, but he has been in the hospital most of last month. He is very sick and weak. Please pray for him!!

HAPPY EASTER
Posted by Nicole | Thursday, April 16
Dear friends, here in India the summer season has started, and all the children are enjoying their well earned break! Please keep on praying for our children, we have had a rough last two months with lots of sick children. Ganesh has been in the hospital for a few weeks now and still has problems with eating. He prefers not to eat at all and we keep on worrying...

Shaheena, Saksi and Namrata were sick as well, but are doing fine now.

We have beautiful news about Karuna, Saksi's paralized mother. Just 2 days ago she did her first steps on her own, without the help of clutches or other staff memebers!!!! We are looking forward with her to a future filled with joy and hope!

GANESH MUCH BETTER
Posted by Nicole | Friday, March 20
Dear friends, I'm so relieved to tell that after a very difficult month Ganesh is doing well. I cannot believe it, because honoustly I had little hope for him. But God is good, and Ganesh is recovering. At the moment he spends some time with his sister in an orphanage about an hour away from us, which was his wish when he was very sick. He will return to us this weekend.

Shaheena has been very sick as well, she kept on throwing up and lost a lot of weight. She was really weak but now, thankfully I can say she is much better. Perfect timing because the exams for our House of Hope children have started. Please pray for wisdom and strenght to study wel.

GANESH VERY WEAK
Posted by Nicole | Monday, February 23
Dear friends, Please keep Ganesh in your prayers, because he is not doing very well. Last week he did not want to eat anymore, because his throat hurt so much when he eats.( This is usually one of the signs of the last stage) He's gotten so thin, and has no energy left. He is only 12, but cannot go to school, because he feels so tired when walking. He also does not play in the house and only sits, watching the others play. Last week he wanted to meet with his 2 sisters, we granted his wish and after that he is doing a little better, and trying to eat. But still he is very weak and the treatment just does not seem to give him that boost he needs so badly. Please pray for his health!

KARUNA IS DOING WELL
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, February 15
Dear friends, I'm so excited to tell you that Karuna is doing well. When she joined us, all she wanted and could do was sleeping the whole day. You must imagine, in the hospital they just let her stay in the bed the whole time with no exercises or what so ever. I felt so sad, seeing such a young lady crawling around and I'm so thankful I found a wonderful physiotherapist. She has visited Karuna once now, and has good hopes that one day Karuna will be able to walk again with a walker. We are all so thrilled! You cannot imagine what did means for a lady who had given up all hopes! She has hope again and got her smile back on her face. Thank God!

SAKSI'S MOTHER IN HOUSE OF HOPE
Posted by Nicole | Saturday, January 24
Yesterday we admitted he mother of Saksi, one of our children, in House of Hope. The lady, Karuna, had been in the hospital the last month, to be treated for HIV related problems. She is paralyzed on her whole left side as well.,

In the hospital they did no longer want to keep her, or allow her a bed because no one came to take care of her. She had not been washed the whole month!!They placed her on a matrass on the floor and decided to put her outside on the streets in the afternoon. Can you imagine?

Outside on the steets Karuna should have to beg to survive and hope maybe some social worker will help her out. Of course we did not want that to happen, so we took her into House of Hope. But as you might understand, we really know nothing about how to help her. The only thing she can do is crawling forward on her bottom, sit and lay down and undress herself.

I believe there is much possible with the right physiotherapy and maybe prosthesis etc.But I don't know where to go yet. Please pray for the right people to help us out with the care of Karuna.

SAD START OF 2009
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, January 13
Dear friends, wishing you all the best in 2009.

We had a very sad start here in Pune. Suyash, who has been in the hospital the lasts weeks, passed away this weekend. He was only 12 years old.

He had been in the hospital because he got TB and pneumonia. He could hardly breathe on his own and did not want to eat anymore. His last days he spend in the IC ward of a local hospital. As you might understand we are all shocked by his still so sudden death. After he died his family came to the hospital to cremate him right away, as is the custom here. Yesterday we had a memorial service with the children in House of Hope, where we remembered all that Suyash liked. We sang his favorite songs, read his favorite bible verse and had his favorite food. Also everybody placed one flower in a vase and said their last goodbyes to Suyash. Please keep on praying for all the other children and new hope and strength for the staff to continue taking care of the children.

14 YEAR OLD CAN NOT READ..
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, December 2
This week we got a new girl admitted into our home. Her name is Ranjana and she is 14 years old. Her mother died several years ago and after that she got admitted into an other orphanage in this city. There, they promised the auntie that the girl would receive education, but she did not.

According to Ranjana and her papers she finished her school only until second grade. This was very shocking to me, but the reality is even worse. Ranjana can not count above ten and is not able to read or write simple 3 letters words in maharati.

It almost made me cry, How sad for a girl like this. 14 years old, and not being able to read, write or count. We cannot even imagine. On the other had I'm very thankful she is in our home now and we believe there is hope. Hope for Ranjana, hope for education and a brighter future. WE keep you up to date.,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, November 16
This weekend we celebrated 3 birthdays!!! Prasana is 7 now, Ganesh turned 13, and Monika, Sangitas daughter turned 16! This weekend we celebrated 3 birthdays!!! Prasana is 7 now, Ganesh turned 13, and Monika, Sangitas daughter turned 16! I can’t believe how fast it all goes. Since their birthdays are just a few days apart we decided to celebrate it all in one.

On Saturday we all had lunch together and this time we ordered food!! This was really special, because we never do that. It was butter chicken and of course everybody loved it!

After filling our stomachs we played musical chairs, even the staff played and this the children enjoyed the most! Later they showed off their dancing skills. You should have seen little Prasana dance, it is so cute!

Suyash, sadly, missed the party because he is in the hospital right now. He was so weak, did not want to eat and his eyes were completely blurred as well, so we decided to place him in the hospital until he is healthier. At the moment he is stable, but please keep him in your prayers. Just like all the others as well, thanks a lot!

DIWALI
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, October 28
Diwali is one of the main festivals here. So, also this year the children enjoyed all the decorations and the small candles (diyas) burning in all the beautifully decorated houses.

We decided to celebrate diwali as well. The children painted diyas and made nice decorations for the home. The staff was busy all day long to prepare nice sweets and in the evening, all children were dressed up in their nicest clothes to celebrate that in the in the end the good will overcome the evil. (meaning of Diwali).

We played bingo, enjoyed all the sweet food, received some small gifts and played with firework. The boys loved the sound of the crackers, while me and the girls preferred to stay a little further away... You have no idea how loud they can be here...

Anyway, we had a beautiful time. Thanks for being involved in bringing a smile on these childrens faces!!!

SHIVAMS SISTER CHANGED
Posted by Nicole | Saturday, September 20
When Shivam was brought to our home, about one and half year ago his sister resisted him. She did not want to touch him, or kiss him good bye. She was glad he left their home, because he was outcast and she wanted to have nothing to do with him, she said. I still remember crying about how a 12 year old sister can be so hard for her brother, only because he is HIV positive. Can you imagine what this must do to a child, when even your own sister does not want you anymore?

But thank God things have changed. After that dramatic goodbye, she and her aunt have been visiting regularly and last time she was even hugging Shivam when she said goodbye. Shivam is doing very well in our home. At this moment in school he is leaning how to read and very excited about that. WE are very proud of him doing so well.

SUYASH BESTS RESULTS IN HIS CLASS
Posted by Nicole | Saturday, August 30
Last week we heard the wonderful news that Suyash got the best grades in his class. He studies in a Maharati school and is in fifth grade. The teacher had given him a small gift and of course he was completely exited as well. But the best thing for him is that he also won a weekend away with this!!!

Out of every Maharati school in the city, only the best students of fifth to eight grade could come for a nice fun filled weekend at some beautiful area. You can only imagine how thrilled he felt and he could not wait to go there of course. We're so thankful that this once rejected boy now get this beautiful opportunity!!

A NEW ADDITION TO OUR FAMILY
Posted by Nicole | Thursday, July 31
We got a new girl into our home last week. Her name is Priyanka and she is only 2.5 years old. Her mother is still alive and living with us as well. Their story is just like many others, sadly enough. Priyanka's father was a driver who was away for longer periods. During his work he used to visit other women and got infected with aids. With or without knowing, he also infected his wife and later on their baby got infected at her birth. The father passed away recently and left Priyanka and the mother behind. We’re very thankful to be able to take care of them as well, please pray for a good time of adjustment for Priyanka and her mother.

SAHARA'S MOTHER DIES
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, July 15
As you might remember, Sahara came to us not that long ago. She is only 4 years old, but was begging in the slum to survive. Her mother was very sick at that time and the father couldn't take care of her. The sad news is that her mother passed away recently. The family did not even bother to tell us before the funeral and we only found out afterwards. Sahara is doing well and doesn't seem to miss her at all. She is doing well and likes to play with the other children now. She only has regularly nightmares and she does not want to sleep alone, so Sangita sleeps with her during the night. Please pray for her.

Some news that excites us is that Shivams teacher called us to say that he is an excellent learner and that she is very happy with his behavior and that she is proud of him. We all are very thankful for that.

GANESH IN THE HOSPITAL
Posted by NIcole | Wednesday, July 2
Dear friends, last week Ganesh got really sick and did not want to eat, drink, play or talk anymore. He kept on losing weight and his face started to swell. I was so worried; he really looked and acted as if he was ready to die. He even wanted to go see his sisters who are living in another orphanage. When we took him to the doctor, they wanted him to stay there for continuous observation. It all went well and he got a little better, but when they decided to give him blood it all went wrong. He started to shake all over, pulled the iv out of his arm and ran off, while spitting blood. He was immediately rushed to the IC where he is being kept the last few days. He is stable now and hopefully ready to come home soon. The doctors want to make a MRI first and see if they can find something in his brain that caused the heavy reaction to the blood they injected. Please pray for a quick recovery

SHAHEENA TURNS SEVEN!
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, June 24
Dear friends, it has been a very busy week in House of Hope. All children started to attend school again, as our summer holiday is officially over and the rainy season has started. Even Saksi started her lower kg this year and is so proud that she shows me her books every time when I am visiting. Sahara will start in a playgroup end of this month, as we expect her to be ready for school by then.

Last week Shaheena turned 7! I'm so thankful she's doing so well, growing up and developing in all areas. Just remember with me how she came to us two and half years ago. A Four year old, weighing only ten pounds and given up by the doctors. Ready to die. But God did His miracle in her life and we celebrated her seventh birthday!! Isn't it wonderful? Even her father came to celebrate with us. Praise God!

BEGGING TO SURVIVE
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, June 3
Can you imagine, being four years old and having to beg to survive? This happened to Sahara. The social worker told us about this little girl, whose parents both have died of aids. Since no one of her family wanted to take care of her, she was left alone and had to beg for food at the neighbours' houses. There she got sugar and chapati's to survive. She sheltered near a temple.

Every time I think about this, it is too hard to even imagine, but sadly enough it's the truth and happening quite often.

We took Sahara in our home and she's having a hard time to adjust. She feels locked up, missing her freedom and doesnot like the (healthy!)food. She is making friends with Saksi, whose her age as well. Saksi feels very big now and wants to help her with everything.

A COMPUTER!!!
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, May 4
A little while ago a friend of mine visited House of Hope with her husband. They both enjoyed it a lot and were amazed by the friendliness of the children and the smiles they gave them. I must admit that it is true; especially Prasana always gives everybody a warm welcome. He is such a wonderful, loving little boy...

Any way, when we left my friend promised me to give her old computer to House of Hope, so the kids can learn how to work with it. And last Sunday, she and her husband came again and brought the computer and a new computer table to go with it!!! Of course we couldn't thank them enough for this enormous blessing. And the children? They gave bigger smiles then ever before!!

A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, April 27
Last Friday Saksi turned four and Sangita decided to make it extra special for her. Sangita had spent the night in House of Hope and surprised Saksi in the morning with balloons and gifts in her bed. She LOVED it and couldn't stop smiling. Her mother called her as well, which meant a lot to her. It was so precious to see her being so happy. The staff had decorated the livingroom with balloons and we all had lunch there, played some simple games and got cake and icecream, a very special treat for them.

I'm so thankful to see that this was all the staffs idea and that they really care and want to see these children happy. Please thank God for Sangita, my right hand and main person in House of Hope and Agnes a wonderful, loving staffmember who really make House of Hope a place where children find hope and get a smile on their face again.

SWATI AND YASH LEAVE...
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, April 15
We've sad news about Swati and her baby boy Yash. As you might remember, they have been living with us since last September. Swati was working in the company while during the day Yash was taken care of in HOH. We saw Yash develop into a lovely, active boy that finally started to walk and look healthy, but for reasons unknown by us Swati decided to leave the home and her work. We told her if she did not want to live in HOH, she could still work in the factory and leave Yash during the day in our home. But she decided to go back to the slum where she came from and started a life of begging again.

This is something that I really cannot understand, why would you want to beg if you have a decent job offer and wonderful care for your child? But it’s their own decision, and all we can do is keep our doors open. Please pray for safety and health for Swati and little Yash.

SAKSI VISITS HER MOTHER
Posted by Nicole | Monday, April 7
As you all might remember, Saksi joined us not so long ago. She is not an orphan as most of our kids are, since she still has parents. Her father, however is not able to take care of her and her mother is paralyzed and hospitalized. Last week she went to visit her mother for the first time, since she has joined us. It was a big battle, because she didn’t want to go. When Sangita asked her why, she shared how afraid she is of seeing her mother being paralyzed and very sick. Sangita understood her fear and went with her to the hospital. When Saksi saw her mother, being partially bold, very skinny and weak she hid behind Sangita. The mother however was so glad to see Saksi again and cried tears of happiness. Please pray for Saksis mother, who's very sick and weak and pray for Saksi as well. We’re very thankful to see that she is doing very well now!

COLORFUL HOLI.../ EXAMS
Posted by NIcole | Saturday, March 29
Last week we celebrated Holi here in India. Holi is the festival of colors. Forgetting about the past, looking forward to what's coming. Even though it's official a Hindu festival, we decided to celebrate it as well with the children. We believe it is very important to teach them all about their own culture, just leaving out the idol worship and teach them about the One real God who truly cares for them.

Everybody was dressed in the oldest clothes we could find, because the game is to completely decorate each other with colors. You can just throw the colors on someone, or mix the colors with water and use water guns...It was lots of fun and in the end everybody was literally pink, orange and blue... The kids loved it and it was so good seeing them have so much fun.

The coming weeks Shaheena, Prasana, Sanatan and Shivam are having their final exams of this year, please pray for them to stay focused and relaxed under so much pressure the Indian system is giving them.

HAPPY EASTER
Posted by Nicole | Monday, March 24
We enjoyed a wonderful Easter this weekend! On Friday the children and I painted eggs. They had never done that before, so it was lots of fun for them. A lot of creativity was used by all the children and specially by Swapnali, her eggs really came out beautiful, with stripes and lines in all different colors. We put them on a nice plate just to enjoy all these lovely colors.

After we were done painting, I hid them in the field in front of the house so the children could search them. But even before the children were outside a boy from the neighborhood came, looked at the eggs, took a nice green egg and ran off.

When I yelled at him, he got scared, squeezed the egg and dropped it on the ground. I couldn't believe my own eyes, I was standing right there on the same field and he dared to steal an egg.( And we always say in situations like this: This is India..) All people from the neighborhood came outside to see what we were doing, as searching painted eggs is not very common here. But we had a great time, and later on we all had a healthy snack,...boiled eggs!

STAFF LEARNS TO PUZZLE
Posted by Nicole | Tuesday, March 18
Last week I brought some new games into House of Hope. When I asked one of the staff to take good care of these new games and to make sure the kids would play it correctly, she told me softly: "But, Nicole I don't now how to play these games..."

Now honestly, I knew that a lot of Indians never learned how to make puzzles or play dominoes, but somehow I had forgotten it. So with amazement on my face I asked her: "WHAT"?

So instead of introducing the children to the new games, I played Domino's with the staff and made the children watch us, so they could learn it as well. The next day, the same lady came to me with a big smile on her face. “Nicole, I can make this new puzzle you gave us, Prasanna(6) taught me. I never was able to do so, but now I can!!"

SAKSI, OUR STRONG WILLED GIRL
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, March 9
As you all know Saksi started living with us about a month ago. Thank God she's adjusted well and doing better. She is a very strong willed girl and wants things to be done her way. (But at the same time she looks so cute...) If she does not get what she wants she used to scream like anything, but after some discipline she's doing much better. She chats a lot in Maharathi, but refuses to speak English to me, or answer other staff when they ask her something. Though she is only four years old, it seems like her emotions are distorted because of abuse and neglect in the past. Please pray for her emotional healing.

We're starting to teach her English from now on, as we're planning to admit her in an English preschool from June onwards. This is when the new school year starts here in India. We're so thankful that this girl as well has plenty of opportunities now, coming from such a poor and hopeless situation.

We got another request for two new boys to live with us, aged around 4 and 6. Both the boys are from a local slum and the mother died of aids, we heard. This is really all I now about them, next week we'll tell you more about this...

A FAMILY RE UNITED
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, March 2
About a month ago we heard the tragic story of Anikid and his parents. The father was working as a watchman in a school and the family lived there as well. The mother got pregnant again and a healthy baby girl was born. When the school staff came to adore the new baby girl they were very exited until they found out that the new born baby and the mother were hiv positive. The father got fired right away and the family had nowhere else to live but the streets.

When the father came to know about House of Hope after some time, his hopes were rising again. He would search for a job and a new home for his family while they were living with us. We took them in and the two children adjusted very well, while the mother needed some time. She now felt rejected by her husband as well. Sangita was able to share a lot of good things with her and soon she felt accepted into "the family".

The other day the father came with the wonderful news he found them a new home. We had a lovely good bye party for them and are happy to see them re-united again and filled with hope. Please keep this family in your prayers.

STEALING FOR A GOOD CAUSE...
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, February 24
Last week we got an unexpected visit from Swapnalis schoolteacher. She was being accused of stealing money from an other girl. Filled with unbelief we stared at Swapnali while she walked into her bedroom and got a whole bunch of money out of a small purse. She started crying and told how she had been forcing one girl to give her money daily. The poor girl was so afraid of Swapnali that she gave it everyday without telling her mother, until today... Swapnali had to go to the girls house an apologize to the girl and her mother. The mother received Swapnali very well and hugged her and forgave her. When we asked Swapnali why she had been stealing the money she answered, crying:" Because I wanted to buy a gift for Mrs. Sangita and Nicole auntie..." And that made me cry!!

MOTHER IN HEAVEN
Posted by Nicole | Thursday, February 14
Last week Prasanna felt very sad, because he was missing his mother so much. He told the staf how he kept on thinking about her and that he was wondering how she is doing right now. Agnes told him that his mother is in heaven, and that she is happy and healthy now. He listened silently and did not react a whole lot, until the next day.

As soon as he met with Agnes he told her with an amazing smile on his face: "I have seen Jesus in my dream and He said my mother is in heaven with Him now." Prasanna now has peace about his mothers death. Isn't this so beautiful?

A BEAUTIFUL FIRST SMILE
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, February 3
This week a new 4 year old girl, named Saksi came into our home. Her mother is still alive but paralyzed and admitted in a hospital because she is very sick. The doctors think the mother is not going to live much longer and the father is not able to take care of her.

The day Saksi arrived in our home I was just bringing in a swing for our two babies and I saw how she was looking at it. So I took her up and put her in the swing. First she didn't want to, but as soon as she felt the rocking she loved it. She curled up, put her thumb in her mouth and smiled, completely satisfied for that moment. As soon as she realized she was smiling she stopped doing it, but it was a beautiful beginning and we're looking forward having much more of these precious moments with her.

GETTING ORGANISED
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, January 13
Last week we decided to change the work duties in House of Hope. Often, when a certain job was not done, none of the staff felt responsible and they blamed each other for not doing it. So, from this week onwards every staff member is responsible to keep her "own" room nice and tidy. It makes it easier for all of us and the good thing is: IT WORKS!!!

We got a phone call from the local hospital if we can admit an other four year old girl. Her paralyzed mother is in the hospital, suffering of aids and the father is unable to take care of her. Most probably the girl will come and live with us from this week onwards. She will be visiting her mother in the hospital weekly. Please pray for this little one as it must be so hard on her.

NEW STAFF
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, January 6
The year started very well with two new staff members for House of Hope. Monika, Sangita's daughter has decided to join us and work every day for two hours after school time. She will help the English medium kids with their homework, play games outside and sing action songs with them in the house. Lots of fun for all children this year!! Another new lady is coming to cook three meals a day, so the other staff has more time to do different things.

Ganesh has been sick this week. It was really bad and since he is one of the weaker children they brought him to the hospital for a health check up. He kept on throwing up and complained about stomach pain. After medication he felt much better and is ready to join school again. Please pray for him and Shaheena specifically, since they are the ones in need of a Doctor the most.

WONDERFUL PARTY
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, December 30
The Christmas party was very successful and of course quite an event again. First we had to wait for more than an hour until all the ladies were there. The wonderful thing is that it didn't bother any of the kids at all, so I tried to learn from that...

They finally entered the very old bus (one of our co-workers from Holland said with unbelief and a smile on his face when he saw the bus: "Do we have to sit in THAT"?). The children had to sit on each other’s lap, but they loved the hour long trip in the bus to the park. It was very warm weather.

In the park they played in a garden, enjoyed exotic birds and lots of other animals, played soccer and so on. After a delightful Christmas lunch, the HOH kids did the nativity play for us. They acted very well and we all enjoyed Shaheena and Prasana bleating like sheep while crawling on the floor. Another play followed about how we can be there for other people around us, like Jesus showed us. Wonderful!! Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas time. From India we wish you a happy new-year!

READY FOR CHRISTMAS
Posted by Frank | Sunday, December 23
Just a few hours sleep away from the Annual Christmas Party! We are celebrating the birthday of Jesus all together at a local park. (Though it is winter, it is still 75F here...). A private bus, games, Indian buffet style food, and gifts for everyone. It's a very big event for most of them; some will have a day like this for the very FIRST time in their life. Entertainment in India is not developed like we are used to in the West. Here we live in a country where the majority of the people are still in need for basic supply of food, water and electricity. So entertainment is less of a priority in general.

As we believe that Jesus came to bring life and that abundantly we know life-situations will change for the better when we seek Him first. What a blessing it is for the kids to experience this real-time. I keep thinking of Shaheena who was on the verge of dying in January 2005. She was 4 years old and just 9 pounds (4,5kg) in weight when she was brought to our house. After prayer and proper care she recovered miraculously in just a few days. Bringing life is a such a beautiful thing to see. The other kids have stories similar to that and are now excelling in their school, being the best in class. Though coming from a less developed background, these kids are so smart. Please help us in extending our hands to give them a life-opportunity to make a difference as well.

Let’s hope, pray, and work hard to see the power of this Gospel of our King fill all areas of life in the year ahead of us.

From India we wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

NEW HOUSE A BIG SUCCESS
Posted by Nicole | Sunday, December 16
Saterday was a big and busy day for all of us, because we moved into a new, wonderful place. It is big enough for everybody and we even have space for more children to be admitted. The house is in the same neighbourhood, so all the children can stay in the same school. How wonderful, isn't it? It was quite a challenge to move, because I gave the complete responsability of moving to the ladies themselves. So when I arrived at the old flat in the morning half of all their belongings were not packed yet,as they had promised, because they didn't get enough boxes, they said. At that same time the movers came to get the cupboards out. So all we could do was take out all the stuff and place it on the floor while they took out all the big furniture... Anyway, later we got some more boxes and I emptied some of the packed boxes ( with for example four pillows in it..)and the problem got solved. We moved into the new house and the kids started cleaning enthousiasticly and did a great job. They LOVE their new house.

REJECTED BY THE FAMILY...
Posted by Nicole (bakkern@galacticomm.org) | Sunday, December 9
Life is so different in India and the stories are often unbelievable. Last week we received a request from a 14 year old girl, if she could come and live in House of Hope. Her parents died of Aids in 2002 and as an orphan she had no place to live. An uncle and aunt took her gracefully in to their home. In India a joint family structure is the normal way to live, so she moved into their home and lived with her cousins as well. But since one of her cousins is expecting a baby, and this girl is HIV+, she has to leave the house immediately. Babies and HIV+ affected people do not go thogether in their thinking. In order not to end up on the streets of Pune, she came to House of Hope.

Thanking God for a place of Hope, we are working hard to get the new house ready so she can move in as well. Please help us in caring for more people like her.

It is so unrighteous when the society does not care and the most weak are the first ones who suffer. They should be the ones cared for first. Let's make that difference!

ON THE MOVE

Hello there - greetings from India. What a beautiful day we had today. The winter in India is great; just like a mild summer in Holland or the USA, but here without any rain! Great time of the year to be in India and to let all of you know we are doing good.

What happened last week?\ Well…in India it is very common the have house-lease for a period of eleven months. That’s what we have for the house of House of Hope also. At the end of the lease you might have to leave the house, within 30 days to be exact. House of Hope got a letter like that last month…for the apartment where the kids and staff live. So we have to move. It was a little stretching to find a new home for 14 people within a few days, but as Sangita (House of Hope Staff) rightly said: “Even the birds find homes, so Our Father in Heaven will provide a home for the children of House of Hope as well”. And He did. We are moving to a larger home in a few weeks, able to provide care for more children in need. Please pray for an easy transition.

More next week! Love, The Bakkers

ANOTHER NEW ADDITION TO THE FAMILY
Posted by Nicole | Wednesday, December 31
Yes, you wont believe it but we got another addition to the HOH family. It is a 5 year old boy and his name is Cheitanya.Cheitanya is doing very well and adjusted very quick without any problem. He loves his new brothers and sisters. Last weekend we celebrated Raksha Bandhi, an Indian festival where brothers and sisters show their love and affection to each other by giving each other gifts. The girls buy a small bracelet for their brother and the boys buy small gifts for their sister.

All our children could choose one brother or sister they would buy a gift for. And so, on Saturday they presented each other their small gift and ate special food as celebration. It was a beautiful day and they all enjoyed it a lot. We're so thankful they all get along so well and have possibilities to show their love to each other.
