Shaheena: Shaheena was the first child that came into our home in January 2005. She was very sick and on the verge of dying, weighing only 10 pounds and four years old. Her mother and baby sister died of aids and her father could not take care of her. Shaheena miraculously recovered and today is a happy six year old girl. She is still a little weak and regularly needs to be admitted to the hospital. She has started to join kindergarten last school year. She loves it a lot and wants to become a teacher when she grows up.
Swapnali: Swapnali is living in House of Hope with her mother Vidhya since two years. While her mother is working during the day, she goes to an English school and is being taken care of inside HOH. She is ten years old and is a fun loving child. She wants to become a doctor when she grows up.
Ganesh: Ganesh and his younger brother Sandesh lived in another orphanage before. When they came to live with us they really had a hard time adjusting. Ganesh screamed and used to fight the staff a lot. Now Ganesh has nicely settled down and accepted his place in House of Hope. He is going to a maharati school. Ganesh is regualary sick and misses school because of that.
Sandesh: Sandesh is a quiet, good natured boy. He loves to dance around, wrestle with the other boys and play with the other children. He is eight years old and is in first grade in a marathi school. Ganes and Sandesh have older sisters that live in another orphanage about an hour away. They meet a few times in a year.
Sonali: Sonali was brought to us by her uncle that couldn’t take care of her after her parents died. She was very quiet, but learns to express herself more and more. She is a wonderful 7 year old girl that loves to play with make-up and nail polish. She is in first standard of a maharati school.
Sanatan: Sanatan and his younger brother Prasana came in after their parents both died of aids in December 2007. Their mother was a pastor and used to pray a lot for other people. The children simply imitate their mother and recently Sanatan prayed over his Hindu schoolteacher when she was having a headache. She was enormously touched by it. Sanatan is doing very well in an English school and last exam he turned out to be the best in his class!!
Prasana: Prasana is a wonderful loving, friendly, funny little six year old boy. He loves to make yokes, play with the other kids and loves to be touched. He is in kindergarten of an English school.
Shivam: Shivam is an eight year old boy that came to us last June. His parents had died of aids and when his aunt found out he was HIV positive she didn’t want to care of him anymore. Even his own 12 year old sister doesn’t want to see or touch him. When he came into our home and Ages, one of the caretakers touched him he got scared and told her not to touch him because he had aids… He adjusted very fast and very well in our home. He is going to kindergarten in an English school and is a happy boy that found love and joy again.
Yash: Yash is our latest addition into the HOH family. He is only one year old and lives with his mother in the house. We take care of him while his mother is working. The father died last September of aids and the day after the father was buried the neighbors locked the house where they used to live. They could not even enter their own house and had no place to go to at all. |
